Eyre Peninsula grain growers have been advised the European Union plans to significantly reduce the maximum residue limit for the grass herbicide haloxyfop in canola.
This means grain handlers will not accept canola treated with this chemical in the upcoming harvest.
Haloxyfop is very widely used by Australian growers as one of the most affordable means of controlling grass weeds in canola.
Australian Oilseeds Federation executive officer, Nick Goddard, says it’s critical exported canola meets import country MRL to maintain our strong trading reputation and ensure continued market access.
Behind Canada, Australia is the world’s second biggest canola exporter, with the EU its biggest market by far.
