Drought preparedness is being encouraged this year, with a new grant available for community organisations.
The Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal is offering Small Network Grants of up to $20,000 for projects designed to enhance local drought preparedness.
Senior Program Manager at FRRR Richard Meredith says being prepared is one way to get ahead of the curve.
“The forecast predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology are suggesting that an El Nino is forming, and that is likely to bring drier and warmer weather, and so it’s important that we try to assist people in getting prepared for drought, Mr Meredith says
“We all know Australia is a very drought-affected country and we’re very good at getting through droughts and recovering from them, but there’s always suffering.”
