Port Lincoln Council are advocating for the desalination plant proposed for Billy Lights Point to go elsewhere.
Mayor Diana Mislov says SA Water have yet to lodge a development application.
“SA Water are proceeding with Billy Lights Point; however, they have – to my knowledge – not yet lodged their development applications… until that’s lodged and consulted on with community, the decision hasn’t been made to proceed fully, Mayor Mislov says.
“Council has also asked for an extended period of consultation over that particular development application so that there’s plenty of time for community to respond.”
She also says a Parliamentary committee has been established to discuss the water supply needs of the Eyre Peninsula, and the community can have their say too.
“Council have been invited to make a submission – in fact, anyone can make a submission – so I encourage anyone that’s concerned in the community to do that as well.”
Submissions can be made here, and close on 12 April.
