The Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal is back, and Captain of the Port Lincoln branch Darren Lloyd says it’s easy to get involved.
“Port Lincoln people can get involved just by going to salvos.org.au, where they can find out how to donate, or they can find out how to actually assist us with the Red Shield Appeal itself by fundraising, Lloyd explains.
“Red Shield is pretty important to us because a lot of Australians need this kind of help at this particular point in time, and in Port Lincoln there’s a lot of people who are doing it hard.”
An Australian calls the Salvation Army for assistance every 17 seconds, and Lloyd says it’s not just people on disability support, pensions, or the unemployed.
“Now, there’s increasingly more people who have got jobs coming in and needing assistance, and that’s really down to – I think – the cost of housing, especially in Port Lincoln where it seems to be increasing every couple of months.”
Locals can join in the Red Shield Appeal by donating online, signing up to fundraise on behalf of the Salvation Army, or volunteering to help the charity raise funds.
