Authorities are reminding locals to prepare for a hotter than average summer, with impending heatwaves posing a threat to community health.
Illness and death are possible during heatwaves, especially among the elderly, those with pre-existing conditions, and those who work outdoors.
SES spokesperson Ian Bonython suggests a few ways we can prepare.
“Prepare a cool room that you can retreat to, plan your days to avoid going out during the hottest part of the day, he says.
“If you haven’t got air conditioning, are there any shopping centres or libraries that you can go to to get away from the heat of your house?”
There’s a severe heatwave forecast for the North West Pastoral region today, and a low intensity heatwave forecast for the West Coast and Eastern Eyre Peninsula.
