Changes could be coming for one of SA’s biggest country footy and netball regions…
The SANFL is set to meet with Eyre Peninsula leagues and clubs about how the region will keep playing into the future.
We’re told planning started in March last year, when the board held a meeting to discuss current league and club structures.
EP footy, made up of four competitions – the Port Lincoln, Great Flinders, Eastern Eyre and Western Eyre leagues – is reportedly struggling with playing numbers and weekly travel.
Independent EP Football Board rep, Gus Glover, says there’s a fair bit of crossover in terms of teams having to travel through towns which are part of other leagues.
A number of ideas have been floated, including amalgamation of clubs and combination of leagues.
Talks are likely to continue through the next season.
