High school students in Port Lincoln will now have access to support when they move on to post-school education.
Port Lincoln High School hosted the launch of for-purpose organisation Country Education Foundation (CEF) yesterday, 16 May.
The Port Lincoln branch is one of 46 nationwide, helping local youth access further education, training and employment through grants, scholarships and support services.
CEF Chair Greg Barry says they hope to see young people use the scholarships to study, and then return to the region with new expertise.
“If we get them there, we can support them through that early transition period, whether that’s vocational or university, it doesn’t really matter, Barry says.
“If you can get the support for the first two years, they’ll finish and then they’ll come back to regional areas and have some benefit for our communities, and that’s pretty much the prime purpose of what CEF Port Lincoln is.”
To kick-start the Port Lincoln branch, Deputy Chair of the Eyre Peninsula Community Foundation Leonie Wanklyn handed over a $3,000 donation.
“On behalf of the Eyre Peninsula Community Foundation, we’d like to give this donation to the Country Education Foundation to make it grow, to make more kids be able to be helped,” Wanklyn said as she presented the grant.
