A group of Year 12 students from Ceduna Area School went digging for the threatened sandhill dunnart alongside the Alinytjara Wilurara Landscape Board in the Yumbarra Conservation Park for the organisation’s fauna survey.
The students helped the Board dig pitfall traps in the dunes along Goog’s Track to locate the small carnivorous marsupials.
Two dunnarts were caught throughout the expedition, and ecologist Brett Backhouse says they’re the second and third of their kind recorded in the Conservation Park since the first one was caught in the 2019 survey.
