New research has found 90 percent of welders are breathing in toxic fumes…

The findings based on ABS data, show some 46,000 welders are being exposed to dangerous carcinogenic fumes at least once a week.

Those in offshore or rural areas, those working in mining, and those who are employed by big companies are more likely to be exposed to high levels.

A study by the World Health Organization back in 2022 also found people with high exposure to welding fumes were 48 percent more likely to have trachea or lung cancer.

Public health experts say the issue should be taken as seriously as silica and asbestos exposure for tradies.
