National Delicacy Under Fire as Portions Become Smaller And More Expensive

A photo of a pitiful portion of the beloved snack has gone viral, causing the price of hot chips in Australia to be once again under scrutiny.

An irate cafe-goer vented on social media about the cost of a serving of hot chips she recently received.

The woman, dining at an unnamed cafe on NSW’s mid-North coast, dubbed her serving “disgraceful” on a local Facebook group, as Kidspot reports.

“I’m not sure if this is just info or a crime,” she quipped, sharing an image of her underwhelming order.

“This is a $10 serve of hot chips,” she lamented.

When she called the cafe to complain, she was told that due to current times, they had decided to downsize servings.

The explanation did little to quell her fury, and after airing her grievances publicly, she discovered she wasn’t alone in her dissatisfaction.

Needless to say, the post attracted a flurry of similarly irate comments.

“Looks like $1,” one person scoffed.

“Wow that’s disgraceful,” another chimed in.

Another suggested: “Don’t go back… it’s ridiculous!”

Sadly, it’s a sign of the times—everyday items and simple pleasures are becoming luxuries we can barely afford.

“Hot chips are no longer a tradition that is affordable for families,” one person noted.

And it’s true.

Small joys, like the Aussie ritual of sharing hot chips with the kids, are being sacrificed to afford more essential needs.

According to News.com.au, CEO of Independent Food Distributors Australia Richard Forbes, whose members supply food to 60,000 cafes, restaurants, pubs, and clubs, said distributors have faced a 30 per cent increase in food costs over the last three years.
